Native to the Canary Islands. Ornamental plant. Pot plant. Edible plant - inflorescence buds are tapped for the sweet sap which is eaten as palm honey; palm honey is produced from sap (guarapo) harvested from the palm; fruits are fleshy, but rarely consumed, it is not very tasty and often very astringent. Herbal plant - an extract of the leaves is used as an ingredient in commercial cosmetic preparations as a skin protector. Usable plant - the fibrous leaflets are used in much the same way as those of P. dactylifera for a range of woven products.
