It is native to south-western Russia, the Caucasus, and Turkey. Ornamental plant. Pot plant. Herbal plant - the root has been used in China, Korea, and Japan for centuries in the belief that it counters fatigue and stress and confers health, virility, and longevity; the bulbs of the plant are used to make medicine; despite serious safety concerns, people take squill to treat mild heart failure, irregular heartbeat, “nervous” heart complaints, and certain vein problems; some people take squill to relieve fluid retention (edema), thin mucus, induce vomiting, or cause an abortion(!).
