Łódź, Park Poniatowskiego
It is native to Europe. Edible plant - young leaves raw; seed raw or cooked; the roasted seed is used as a coffee substitute. Herbal plant - bark is antacid, antipyretic, antiseptic, antitussive, expectorant, odontalgic; tar (or creosote), obtained by dry distillation of the branches, is stimulating and antiseptic, used internally as a stimulating expectorant and externally as an application to various skin diseases. Useful plant - a semi-drying oil is obtained from the seed by pressing, used as a fuel for lighting, as a lubricant, for polishing wood, etc.; the heartwood is a very pale pink-brown in colour, it is not demarcated from the sapwood; the grain is straight, the texture fine and even; the wood is hard, heavy, strong although not very durable - demand special protective treatment.
