Observation tower, Lipad Mud Volcano, Tabin Wildlife Reserve, Sabah.
Habitat: Observed next to a tower overlooking the Lipad Mud Volcano. The immediate surrounding forest fringe has sun-loving pioneer trees of lower stature mostly < 10 m tall, which grades slowly into the tall forest with a typical canopy of 30 m beyond. Habit: Small tree with a canopy of rosette branches, of which umbrella-ribs-like shorter branchlets radiate from the main branches. Plant description: The leafy branches have numerous small axillary flowers & slightly zigzag tips. The shoots are maroon in colour. Note: *This individual has dark maroon flowers, but the flowers of Glochidion spp. are usually yellow. *Most closely resembling Glochidion zeylanicum var. zeylanicum (formerly Glochidion sumatranum).
