Useful plant - the bark is a source of tannins; a yellow dye is obtained from the bark; an extract of the flowers is used as an ingredient in commercial cosmetic preparations as a skin conditioner; the wood is heavy, close grained, very hard, very tough, very durable, used especially where great resistance to friction is required; wood used as a fuel has a calorific value almost equal to coal.
